Boston: Getting Around
Driving
The last thing you want to do when visiting Boston is drive.
If you do drive into the city, parking is a problem almost
anywhere you go. Street parking is available on some main
streets, but a lot of neighborhood areas are limited to those
with "Resident" parking stickers only. Boston policemen and
Meter Maids not only ticket and tow, but have the power of
The Boot -- an huge iron clamp that's put on the rear wheel
making it impossible for you to drive until you've paid every
parking ticket you've ever received.
Public Transportation
Why risk it? Boston has a safe, relatively efficient and easy
to understand subway system (aka the "T") provided
by the Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority (www.mbta.com)
that can get you to just about every attraction you can imagine.
(see map below)
Walking
Boston is a relatively small city that's a pleasure to walk
around when the weather is nice and still bearable most of
the time when it is not. Walking through Boston will help
you appreciate the historical and architectural treasures.
